The Origin of the Lakes
Press to read the story
Once upon a time, lakes did not exist long ago. God gave men water only to drink. He kept all the water in a great pearl, and as everyone knows, the devil is always jealous of what God has. So the devil decided to steal the pearl from God and prevent men from drinking until they started worshiping him. One day, when God was not at home, the devil grabbed the pearl and left with it. When he got home, he tried to pour the water from the pearl, but he couldn’t, because only God had the key to open it. He became so nervous as to throw the pearl on the ground with such force as to break it, and so all the ground was flooded. God succeeded in restoring some of the water, but the rest spread in the lower hollows of the earth, and that was how the lakes were formed.
